About us

The award-winning Thorn Tree Inn is a small, comfortable, traditional pub dating from the 1800's. It sits on Jackson Road, high on Matlock Bank, its windows and terrace looking southwards across the Derwent Valley towards Riber Castle and beyond. T
here is also a large outdoor canopy with electric heaters for those chilly evenings. It is a beautiful location to spend a few hours and to meet new people.

This cosy pub welcomes visitors and locals alike, old and young, from all walks of life. Children are very welcome in the pub, when they are accompanied by a responsible adult. The pub is really dog friendly and many canine visitors come in with their owners.

Patrick, Emma and their staff run this real ale gem, serving 7 hand-pulled ales to perfection (see the Real Ales page in the column on the left). Draught Guinness, lagers, cider and a wide selection of spirits are served, as well as a selection of bottled beers. Wines are available by the glass or bottle. For the non-drinkers and drivers, there are a wide range of soft drinks and fruit juices.

The pub has two darts teams, with 'home' matches played every Tuesday evening during the darts season. There is a selection of communal darts, for those who fancy a go! There is also a wide range of board games available, to which customers can just help themselves. These range from Scrabble and Chess to Buckaroo!

The pub has free wi-fi internet access for customers. Please ask at the bar for the password.

Home cooked food is served at certain times in the week, but a careful balance between food and ale is always maintained.
